Reduce NX Thermal Simulation Time Up to 75% with Concurrent CFD

by Bill Martin-Otto on 15 Nov, 2011 in NX

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is an essential analytic if you design products that interact with liquids and gases, or if you need to accommodate heat transfers.

“Concurrent” CFD has eliminated many of the hassles of traditional CFD analysis by doing the bulk of the work within the MCAD environment. This reduces the risk of data loss and corruption, eliminates the time needed to explain your design to CFD specialists, and makes it easy to make changes and test different scenarios without any physical prototyping.

For Siemens NX users, FloEFD by Mentor Graphics is a full-featured, 3D fluid flow, heat transfer analysis package that’s easy to learn and use. Most users report they can use FloEFD with less than eight hours of training. According to James Young, a design engineer at Azonix, “FloEFD…enables design engineers without a fluid analysis background to perform thermal simulation. The result is that we got the design right the first time, only had to make one prototype, and avoided expensive design changes that typically occur in the late stages of the development process.”

The embedded solution lets you perform what-if scenarios in these categories:

CATIA V5 Tips and Tricks

by Bill Martin-Otto on 14 Nov, 2011 in CATIA

It’s always nice when other 2D and 3D designers share their most useful tips and tricks.  Download the CATIA V5 tips and techniques post by Nik with AscendBridge Solutions. He answers the following questions:

Q: Do you know how to convert a 2D drawing view (in dwg format) into a 3D Part using Advance Part Modeling options of CATIA V5?

Q: Did you know that designers can key in values in combination of units or in formulas in CATIA V5 dialog boxes?

Q: Do you know how to create a Hole with reference to center of another Hole in a Block or Plate using hole feature in CATIA V5?

Q: Do you know how to create multiple corners on a complex Profile, of equal radius and related to each other in CATIA V5 Sketcher?
